Lending Hands for Life PrEP and Hepatitis C Services
Since 1989, Erie’s Lending Hands for Life (LHL) program has been working to help those living with HIV/AIDS - or those who are at risk – live healthy lives and reduce the number of transmissions in Chicago. The LHL program also works with HIV preventative services (PrEP) and Hepatitis C services.
What is PrEP?
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that reduces your chances of getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV. We offer both injectable and oral medication.
What is Hepatitis C?
Hepatitis C (HepC) is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis C virus. Many people with HepC don't look or feel sick so might not know they have the virus. Left untreated, hepatitis C can lead to serious liver problems, like scarring and cancer. There is a treatment/cure for HepC.
Our PrEP/HepC program:
- Erie offers a wide range of services — from medical care to emotional support — for individuals at risk of acquiring HIV. A team of community health workers and providers are here to ensure you receive the highest quality care for living your healthiest life.
- We offer injectable and oral PrEP at all of our Erie locations.
- PrEP is a treatment that when taken as prescribed, can greatly reduce your risk of getting HIV from sex and injection drug use.
- PrEP can stop HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout your body. It is highly effective for preventing HIV when used as prescribed.
- See down below for our free at-home HIV self-test kits. Test kits are only for those residing in the state of Illinois.
- We also offer Hepatitis C Treatment Services at most of our Erie sites.
- And we provide insurance and medication navigation support for uninsured and insured patients seeking access to PrEP and HCV medications.
As part of LHL, our patients learn to live healthy lives and reduce the number of transmissions in Chicago.
At Erie Family Health Centers, we believe healthcare is a human right. Erie offers high-quality healthcare regardless of a person’s ability to pay, insurance or immigration status, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
